Sustainability
Wrappings
I will use compostable or bio degradable options wherever available, above all other types of wrapping
The cellophane used to wrap stems in and create water bubbles on hand tied bouquets is either bio degradable (place in general waste bin) or fully compostable & certified for disposal in home composts or through commercial composting schemes which are currently used in Cheshire East.
Kraft paper is recyclable (please check local facilities)
Raffia and hessian used for bows are bio degradable, however some ribbons may not be, and in this case I would encourage you to re-use them yourself for gifts/crafts.
Floral foam
Different types of floral foam may be used in arrangements, including the bio degradable type. The aim was to use bio degradable exclusively by the end of 2020, and is now to use fully compostable foam by the end of 2024.
Entirely biodegradable designs are available, such as the wreath below, made from natural materials.
Transport
I will endeavour to use carbon zero or low carbon transportation.
Flower & plant materials
The European floriculture trade is very much centred around Holland. The widest range of top quality cut flowers are available all year round through the Dutch auctions and wholesalers. Their growers ensure responsible use of resources, regulated use of chemicals, and good employment conditions.
Many British growers are increasing their availability and improving quality and I will buy flowers and other materials from within the UK wherever possible.
Please ask about the availability of sustainable materials at the time of ordering
